Finals week session: Thursday 5/15 at 9-11am
Your final reflection is to create a reverse syllabus due Wednesday, May 8 at 11am. This is a hard stop!
One of the funny realities is that a syllabus and course schedule is given at the beginning of the semester, but how you actually experience the class and what we do changes along the way!
For this part of the reflection, I’d like you to outline the course as you experienced it over the last 16 weeks.
Your reverse syllabus should include:
- A course description: a paragraph on the scope of the class (time period, regions), themes, and big ideas from the class from your perspective. Add any connections you have made between our class and current events. Write this paragraph as you would describe the class for friends or family.
- Top 3 skills or ideas you learned in the class.
- A weekly breakdown of what you read, watched, and did including annotations described below. Don’t just list what was assigned. Name and describe the readings, videos, and assignments you actually engaged with and briefly comment on them (were they boring, interesting, challenging, completely new topic to you, why they stood out to you, etc.). And it’s ok if some weeks are blank or only lightly filled in! Things came up, and that’s real and ok.
- Assign yourself a letter grade based on what you have accomplished in the class: level and volume of work completed and proficiency in the course learning outcomes (see detailed learning outcomes page)
Annotations to add to your syllabus:
- Identify and discuss the 2 assignments of which you’re most proud and why. Be sure to add it to the relevant Module.
- For Module 16: add a discussion of what you think is the most successful part of your project or the process. Note: this can be invisible to the reader, like how you organized the sources and info for yourself or time management.
Assessment:
A high-quality final reflection will contain:
- All of the sections described in the instructions above.
- Depth and detail on your progress through the class, displaying insight and self-awareness. Examples are clearly labeled and specific.
Formatting Instructions:
- You may complete this final reflection as a written narrative or multimedia project (slides, website, Prezi, etc.).
- Add your completed reflection to your Shared Folder.
- Celebrate! Collapse! Relax! You’re done with the class.
