Finals week session: Tuesday 5/13 at 8-11am
- Come when you want to complete the reflection. Plan for about a regular class period (it will probably take you less time though).
Final reflection Option #1: create a reverse syllabus
One of the funny realities is that a syllabus and course schedule is given at the beginning of the semester, but how you actually experience the class and what we do changes along the way!
For this option, I’d like you to outline the course as you experienced it over the last 16 weeks. You’re welcome to use all class materials, your own notes and work, and what you added to the class engagement section of the feedback tracker to inform each section.
Your reverse syllabus should include:
- A course description: a paragraph on the scope of the class (time period, regions), themes, and big ideas from the class from your perspective. Add any connections you have made between our class and current events. Write this paragraph as you would describe the class for friends or family.
- Top 3 skills or ideas you learned in the class.
- A weekly breakdown of what you read, watched, and did including annotations described below. Don’t just list what was assigned. Name and describe the readings, videos, and assignments you actually engaged with and briefly comment on them (were they boring, interesting, challenging, completely new topic to you, why they stood out to you, etc.). And it’s ok if some weeks are blank or only lightly filled in! Things came up, and that’s real and ok.
- Identify and discuss the 2 assignments of which you’re most proud and why. Be sure to add it to the relevant Module.
- Assign yourself a letter grade based on what you have accomplished in the class. With your self-assessed letter grade, please describe how the following factor in:
- proficiency in the course learning outcomes (these are listed in your feedback tracker). This can include formally graded assignments and in-class activities.
- overall class engagement and participation
Assessment:
A high-quality final reflection will contain:
- All of the sections described in the instructions above.
- Depth and detail on your progress through the class, displaying insight and self-awareness. Examples are clearly labeled and specific.
Formatting Instructions:
- You may complete this final reflection as a written narrative or multimedia project (slides, website, Prezi, etc.).
- Add your completed reflection to your Shared Folder.
- Celebrate! Collapse! Relax! You’re done with the class.
Final reflection Option #2: create a zine
