The goal of this workshop is to work through key sources for your project in the same way we have done with secondary and primary sources in the class so far to identify their relevance and limits. The idea is to help crystallize your analysis of your sources, which will help strengthen your historical argument and thesis.

Answer the following questions for 1 secondary source:

  1. List the citation in MLA or Chicago Style.
  2. What is the author(s) thesis statement?
  3. Specifically, what primary sources or data does the author use as evidence?
  4. How does this source contribute to your project? Does it provide an analytical framework, background information, translated quotes from primary sources, etc.?

Answer the following questions for 1 primary source:

  1. List the citation in MLA or Chicago Style.
  2. What is the main point or perspective that the source makes? This is the direct or surface level read of the source. Include specific details or direct quotes to support your answer.
  3. What subtext or implicit messages does the source convey? Include specific details and what's informing your analysis (other sources, inferring from background reading, etc.).
  4. How does this source fit into your project? What is it evidence of and how does it contribute to answering your research question?

This assignment is graded as **Satisfactory, Needs Work, ****or No Credit.

To receive Satisfactory, all of the following must be completed by each group member:
