Hi, I'm Dr. Celeste Tường Vy Sharpe! I use she/her or they/them pronouns.
Please address me as Dr. or Professor Celeste or Sharpe. Even Celeste is fine. Never Miss/Mrs/Ms! It’s best not to assume gender or marital status, generally. Plus I earned a PhD and my mom is super proud so Dr or Professor are the most appropriate forms of formal address.
My fuzzy co-worker Beatrix in her natural habitat.
I’m an active researcher working on a project on the history of addiction treatment in Minnesota since the 1950s and particularly how gender shaped responses to addiction. And with Dr. Jack Norton and other Normandale faculty, I’m working on an exciting new project to develop a class and study away experience focusing on environmental histories of food, floods, and rivers.
I’m originally from central California, which has given me very strong opinions about fruits and vegetables. Before becoming a professor at Normandale: I lived in Calgary, Canada for 2 years while I earned my Masters degree, which is where I learned all about cold and how to layer.
I earned my PhD in history from George Mason University out in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Living in DC is trippy. And my first job in Minnesota was at Carleton College in academic technology (basically I helped faculty who wanted to integrate tech and data into their classes).
ginger cookies, my chewy fave.
In my downtime, I love to cook and bake. I’m 2nd gen on my mom’s side and a third culture kid. My family was one where making food and feeding others was a major way we connected across differing ideas, ages, and experiences.

Taking nature walks and exploring parks and trails is one of my favorite things. Red pandas are precious. Walking on a beach is a small piece of heaven for me. But I hate running. Hate it. The worst.
